This is not a very rare phenomenon; in fact, many have experienced the effects of losing a certain file from their computer after having it downloaded. You spend hours searching for it with different possible names and then end up. Or probably download the thing again. Why does it happen? Mostly, whenever we are downloading we tend to be caught up with other things that we forget to notice the location prompted by the computer for a certain download.

Where Are The Files I Downloaded – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

There are different steps that one must follow for file downloading. For example, you will have a different location when you’re using Windows Vista. When it comes to Web browsers, the location of downloads may be pre-determined; this is also for Google chrome and Firefox.
To begin with, let’s do Windows Vista first.

To know where your downloaded files may be, simply, click on the start button.

Advance to My Documents, you will find a folder labeled “Downloads”. That is exactly where all downloads are recorded.

Open up the folder and view an array of downloads you’ve made over your laptop’s lifetime.

For a Web Browser such as Google chrome, you may follow the following steps:

On the web browser click on tools. It will most probably be an icon of a wrench placed on the right hand side of the browser.

From there select the option of “downloads”

This selection will give you the results of downloads you’ve made in the past one month.

If the results do not carry the download you are looking for then type in the file’s name in the box; it’ll search your download file you’re looking for.

AOL, another popular software in computers, also has a procedure for locating of the downloads made. Simply, follow the steps to make it through:

The browser will have a File option in the Menu bar; click on it.

You will have an option of Download Manager in the File selection.

In this window you will select the file you want and then push on the find button. Your file will be located and brought to you.

Firefox Browser also has a feature similar to that of AOL.

For Firefox, you may need to install add that allows the Download Manager.

You can access the download manager by clicking on Tools from the Menu Bar.

Tools will have an option of Downloads; click on it. A complete result of your downloads will pop up in front of you. Select the file you want and use it.

There is one tip that may come in handy for you; you can change the default location for your web browsers to some other location where you always access files, probably it would be desktop. Once, you’ll do that every download you make will be right in front of you.

Backup is very important to people who use computers regularly for their work or store important information in the computer. Considering many cases of data loss through system failures and viruses, it is better that you should store your important data on separate storage away from your computer. In this way, you will retain your data in the backup disk in the case of any system failure that may cause data loss.

Backing Up Your Precious Files – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

Transferring Data At Safe Place
Most people are so optimistic that they forget computers can fail any time. They always think that the worst cannot happen to them and losing data is not their thing. Well they may be right, but if at all their systems fail they will have no person to blame for having lost all their important data. To be on the safe side, you should use backup to save your data, at least the most important information. It sometimes does not seem logical to save every little detail including a lot of unnecessary files. While saving date, you should sure that you have enough backup space for future important data.

You should secure your important information in a storage that will allow easy retrieval. It gives you surety that your information is not damaged when you system crashes because of any reason.

Back Up Devices For Date Storage
Storage methods are diverse and people choose them on the basis of the type and size of information they want to store.

Floppy Disk
A while ago, Floppy diskettes were a common site in storage. These, however, have been faced out with the advance of technology though computers still have the Floppy drives. A Floppy diskette was a good storage but it was too small to handle the amount of data that people deal with in computers today. They can still store the information but you will need a whole load of them.

Compact Disk
Another way to store information is using Compact Disks (CDs). CDs are good backup storage because you can store large amount of data content in them as compared to Floppy diskettes. Faster disk burners are being manufactured that make compact disk storage quite popular. Within a short time, you can save up to 800Mb of data onto a compact disk. One CD can easily replace a backup of many Floppy diskettes reducing time wasted of searching for that particular Floppy diskette.

Online Back Up
Online backup is the other method of storing data. In this method you don’t need to have CDs or Floppy diskettes. You simply upload your information in online storage where you can just download the information back to your computer if needed.

Whatever method you prefer as backup for your files is very important. You save the information in the backup to save it from being lost. It is therefore your responsibility that you should protect your backup.

Letters are written forms of communication that humans use. In Letters writing, a person needs to be brief and formats the message in a manner that the recipient will understand easily. A letters has different divisions that should be understood for a better understanding. There are different types of letters, these include; formal letters, informal letters, business letters and friendly letters. The type of letter you write is purely dictated by the person to whom you are sending it to. Whichever letter you want to write, the divisions plays a major role in the arrangements of your letter. First, open the text editor or Microsoft word document to type a letter. You can download the specific template of different letters from the internet.

Below are the necessary parts/divisions of a complete letter;

Time and address
Your address should appear in the top right of your letter followed by the date; this is used in the case of any replies from the recipient. Dates are so important because they show the urgency of the letter and are used for record purposes. On the left side but below your address and date comes the address of the recipient.

Subject
Every letter has a reason for its writing; well this reason can be summarized into a short sentence that can get the attention of the reader within the first look. The subject should be as brief as possible and it should give an overview of the letter’s content. The subject is usually written in the upper case and underlined.

Reference number
For the sake of record keeping in business letters, reference code is used in order to relate the current letter with previous or next letters. You should use continuous numbering for easy location of previous letters.

Salutation
Salutations or greetings in letters are a way of showing respect and can vary depending on the nature of the letter. Most people use ‘Respected Madam/Sir’ for formal letters and ‘Dear recipient’s name’ for informal or friendly letters.

Body of the letter

Introduction
After the salutations the body of the letter starts with the introduction. This is where the sender introduces the reason of sending the letter and highlights it. The introduction of letter should explain clearly about the subject but in a rather short way.

Body
After the intro, the main body of the letter comes. It should be straight to the point with wise choosing of words that have the ability of bringing out the clear message without complicating the language. It can be one paragraph or more depending on the intended message.

Conclusion
This is as a show of gratitude for the time and attention the reader has given to the letter. It is supposed to be as brief as possible and convey the required message.

Signing off
This is where you sign off by using any appropriate words such as; ‘yours sincerely’, ‘yours truly’, again, depending on the nature of the letter.

Signature line
You put your signature here then your name below that and with that, the letter is complete and ready to be sent.

Computers are the miracles of modern science. This machine has entered into our life in such a way that we cannot do our daily works without computers. The power of computer has become more surprising after internet was launched. Internet is basically consisting of thousands of networks that are linked together. You can get any information you want to get from the internet.

Network Basic Tips – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

Nowadays every job requires basic computing and internet browsing skills. Even students need computers to save their lectures into soft form and use it to research for their assignments. If you do not have the basic knowledge over these issues then read the topics below to get an overview.

What Type Of Connection I Need
A computer must have internet connection to get connected to the internet. There are several types of connections available. You can use dial-up connection which connects you to the internet using phone lines. This type of connection has some drawbacks such as your phone remains busy when you are connected to the internet. Also dial-up connections do not give much high speed. There are some broadband connections available which are much high speed.

Web Browser
To download information from the internet, you need to web browser which translates the information for you. With Microsoft operating system, you will get a free web browser- Internet Explorer. Before you connect to the internet, be sure that you update you system software.

Opening Website
our connection provider gives you IP address that is used to surf over the internet. Open the Internet Explorer and a blank page will appear. If you have selected a website as homepage, then that page will appear when you start browser. Now if you want to go to a specific website, put the address of the website on the address bar. Address bar is white bar which has a blue icon go (→) sign. Put the website address into the address bar and click go to open a website.

Use Of Search Engines
Suppose you do not know the address of any website, you can search for it using search engine. Google is a search engine where you put the key words to get relevant results. The search engine will find out list of websites that match with your keywords. You see the list where a brief description of the website contents is given. You will see blue colored line after each address. These are called hyperlinks which direct you to the main website. You can also find the search field on the same row where the address bar is located.

Security Measures
At last you have to remember the security when using internet. Internet browsing can bring troubles such as virus, spyware. Internet crimes are very common nowadays and be careful and do not fall into these kinds of traps. It is hard to escape from web risks if you do not have any antivirus guard. Protect your computer with antivirus. Install a good antivirus and update them regularly for safe internet surfing.

When you use a computer you might be wondering how you could manage the computer more easily. Well managing a computer is not a rocket science. It is like managing your textbooks on your table so that you can get the right stuff quickly at the right time. If you have learnt about how to use the computer then your computing experience can be great. You should gain some knowledge on managing the computer properly. You can follow some rules just as the followings:

Basics Training For Beginners – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

•	Do you need to change your mouse over and over again and you are tired of it? Then you should learn how to use the keyboard more. You can do all the functions via a mouse, but you learn it first. If you learn typing properly then you can work in a more convenient way with keyboard. Think when you are typing and you just need to save the file then you can press shortcut keys from the keyboard to perform this function. You do not even need to move your hand to reach the mouse. This way you can make your mouse to work for longer times and you can save your money as well.

•	Many of us get free software from the websites. Often these download are liked with some additional toolbar options. When you get too much toolbars for your browser then it will make it slow. You should keep just one toolbar and get rid of all others to make your internet browsing fast.

•	Always try to keep your stuffs in the computer in an organized way. If you keep the files in a scatter then it takes much computer memory. If you want to save your computer memory space then keep the files in one place. You can do computer defragmentation, which is utility software. This software will move the files and store them into smaller places. This makes your computer really fast and it is easy to manage.

There are some devices which enhance the power of your computer and you should learn about these devices too.

When you use your telephone line to get access to internet, you need modems for it. This device works as translator between the computer and the internet connection. The main action of modem is to translate analog signals into digital signals or vice versa.

If you want to connect any device to the computer then you should know how to connect them. Actually any additional device can be attached to the computer using the ports. Ports can be parallel, serial or PS2 ports. Different ports attach different devices and be sure your that computer has all the ports you need.

Today, everyone has a basic understanding of what a computer is and what it can do. The computer can also be called as processing machine, an electronic device that can understand and can execute programmed commands for input, computation, output and logic operations. Computers are not as complex as you might about it.

How Computer Work – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

A computer system works in the following order to process the request of a user.

Input

Processing

Output

Storage

Input: Input is provided to the computer system through input devices like keyboard, CD or DVD player, microphone, and flash drives etc.

Processing: It is also called CPU (Central Processing Unit) a part in a computer system that provides the brainpower and performs all computation and logical operations. When a user enters input into computer, CPU processes it.

Output: Output is the result of processing that can be viewed through a monitor like a television, audio speakers and printers etc. The output on a monitor is temporary and is known as a soft copy but a printer generates a printed output on a paper. The results are usually shown via output devices.

Storage: Storage of data and software in a computer system is either temporary or permanent. RAM (Random Access Memory) provides the temporary storage of data and holds the running processes. Installed and interchangeable hard disks are used for a permanent storage for data. There are some other devices that we can attach with computer to increase its functionality.

Web Camera:
Web camera usually known as web cam that is used for live video calls. We can also use this device to record videos and to take snaps. Some of the web cams also available with embedded microphone in it so that you can make your calls by using a single device. Web cam drivers CD are available with the web cam. When you purchase this devise, you need to install relevant drivers on your computer to integrate your cam with the computer.

Speakers:
Speakers are utilized with audio drivers to listen any audio file.

Pin Drive:
Pin drives are commonly known as data traveler device used to move data from one computer to another computer.

Key Board:
Keyboard is an essential part of a computer. Computer cannot operate its tasks without a keyboard. Keyboard is a set of functional, alphanumeric and some special character keys to interact with a computer.

Mouse:
This device is also mandatory to work with the computer. Mouse has two left and right buttons on its top to perform functions. Some of the mouse devices also have a stroller on its top to scroll the documents in more easy way.

To become an expert computer user, you need to learn the operating of these devices.

Operating system is the software that puts life into the hardware. We cannot use the hardware without the operating system. It is the basics of a computer. Without system software we cannot give commands to the computer or get any result from it. System software is the linking bridge between the computer and human being. As we know, computer works in digits which are really complex for a normal human to understand. Also computer cannot understand the language we use in our daily life, it can understand only 0 and 1. All the command we give to computers they are actually then converted into lots of 0 and 1. After computer has performed the job then we see the results in our language. All this is possible because operating system or system software helps to manage the communication between human operator and the computer.

What Operating System Do I Have? – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

We work on different software such as Microsoft words, Microsoft excel etc. All of these are called application software. Actually the application software is written on the base of system software. If the system software does not support it then we cannot use that application. Some of the functions that system software provides:

Shows the command we provide the computer on the computer screen.

Installs programs and run them so that we can work on the computer.

Manages and interacts between hardware and application software to rum the jobs properly.

Manages the storing and display of data.

Show the result on the computer screen or print them as we command the computer.

Manages the tasks we give to the computer so that there is less traffic.

Helps human operator to control r and troubleshoot the system when necessary.

The system software has been developed greatly over years. Earlier versions of system software required the human operator to write the commands manually. That time people had to learn command lines which the computer could understand. Computer cannot understand all the words we use in our daily life. It uses special sentences to take commands. Learning those commands were really a hard job. Now we do not have to learn the commands any more. User friendly operating system has allowed seeing icons and clicking on them to command the computer. This advantage was really great for all. Now anyone can use the computer if he knows how to read English. Even a person who cannot read English can run the computer by seeing the icons on the computer.

Operating system can facilitate different functions such as real time action in which data is transferred in a fraction of a second. Multitasking facilitates work on different application software at the same time on a single computer. It allows a program to run different application quickly by doing different parts of a job at the same time.

Browsing over the internet has become our daily routine nowadays. We search news, connect to our friends and families, do online shopping, download our favorite movies and music and share them with others. Using internet has become a norm in our life. The history of internet does not go that long but it has gained popularity very fast as it can provide us a lot of information and it is really cheap to get connected to other over internet. Internet has made our life ease, but there are risks as well. While searching over the internet, you can get unwanted computer damaging programs. These programs are called Virus. Also there are many other kinds of threats; such as, malware, spyware, phishing etc. If you are not aware of these threats and take necessary measures then you might get trouble. Your desktop might crash or your personal information can be out to criminals and they can manipulate you as they wish.

Safety When Surfing The Internet – Computer Basic Tips and Tricks

To save yourselves from these problems, you must know how to use your computer safely. Some instructions are given below:

1. Do not read mails from any unknown person. Viruses are spread through unknown attractive emails. You might get email in forms of advertisements, great offers or even they might look like personal information. When you open these email or click to an attachment, your computer get infected with virus which starts deleting contents from your computer.

2. It is better not to use shared network, which is peer-to-peer. In these networks, it is easy to share your files, music, and games with others. But if any computer is infected by virus then it will spread over all the computers linked to it.

3. Update your system software regularly and be sure that your antivirus is updated. If you do not use latest version of antivirus, it cannot fight against the new threats. To ensure the highest safety, update your antivirus protection once in a week.

4. Use strong firewall. Firewall does not leak your personal data from your computer into the internet. It is important to have firewall to separate your computer from the internet.

5. Change your password regularly to stop internet hacking. There a hacking system is also called phishing. Sometimes you see a page that looks the same as other websites, where you have to logon by using ID and password. If you enter your ID and password into these pages then they get recorded by the internet hacker. They can use your password to spend money from your credit card account or they can spread virus to your friends by using your email ID. The only way to avoid phishing is to change your password once a week.

6. Use internet version antivirus protection for your computer. You have to buy antivirus and install them into your computer, it will check every action in your computer and filter all threats that harm your computer.
If you remain careful then you can use the internet freely without any kinds of threats.

We are living in a new technology era and digital information is the code that we live by. You get digital information from computers that transform it into electronic formats. It allows easy processing and storage of information in bulk.

Introduction To Computers – Computer Tips and Tricks

Computer operations :

(I) Input
It is also known as peripheral devices that enable the feeding of information into computers. Examples of input devices used by microcomputers include; a keyboard, mouse and a microphone.

(II) Central Processing Unit
It is called CPU or the central processing unit that converts input information to output. In addition, it is the brain of your computer that controls all operations of the system.

(III) Storage
There are two different types of storage devices in computers. The Random Access Memory {RAM} is a short lived and automatically deleted once the computer is shut off or in the case of any power interruption. RAMs are chip looking devices and they have their slots on the motherboard which should never be confused with a keyboard. Keyboard is input device that people use for typing while motherboard is what holds the RAM, electronic circuits, central processing unit among many other parts.

The other memory type is the Read-Only-Memory (ROM that is permanent and not automatically erased when the computer is shut down or there is any power interruption).

Output
Output is what you get after any computer process. The electronic data is converted to visual formats in monitor screens to sound through speakers and printed papers by printers. You can get whatever you insert via output devices. They are also known as hardware or peripheral devices.

There are a number of computer types available for home and business use. The mostly used computer type in homes is the PC or personal computer. Companies that manufacture personal computers include; IBM, HP, SUMSUNG, TOSHIBA and APPLE.

Hardware and Software
All the tangible parts in a computer are referred as ‘hardware’, for example the keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, printer and the internal hard disk just to mention but a few. On the other hand the commands that control the computer with electronic instruction are called ‘software’s. These types of commands are developed by computer programmers who write coded information for computers to interpret and execute. The computer has an interpreter which decodes the coded information to digital instruction that can be executed by the central processing unit. The programmers test and debug the coded information then compile it into a file and package them into what people buy as computer software or can be attached to computers prior to selling (installation of the software has been done before you buy the computer). Examples of software are; antivirus, media players, compact disk burner, and voice recording among many others.
